Fossil Fuel

The energy in fossil fuels comes from the sun.  The energy stored in fossil fuels was built up over millions of years.  To replace this amount of energy by capturing it from the sun in plants and turning them into biofuels would require a huge amount of land.  We need this land to produce food.

Hybrid Cars

Hybrid cars use an electric motor to help the conventional engine move the car along. At slow speeds the car is moved only by the electric motor. This reduces emissions in built up areas considerably and reduces the fuel consumption of the car.

Spring Bulbs

Environmental science in your school yard Adopt your own spring bulbs to measure climate change! Our climate is changing and so are our seasons. Help Professor Plant to find out how are our changing seasons are affecting flowering times in spring bulbs. Adopt, study and record the growth of a spring bulb as part of a spring bulb network. Get out of the classroom! Join the 160 schools taking part in this exciting investigation.

3,600 pupils recorded data for the Spring Bulb for Schools project this year! Each was awarded with a Super Scientist Certificate. Many thanks to all of you who took part. Please take part again next year. This year's results show some very interesting trends. Download my report and study the graphs to find out more!
