Wood

Wood can provide a carbon neutral source of heat and power. More...

Design

Most energy comes from burning fossil fuels. This produces greenhouse gases which add to climate change. Designers need to think about the energy used in the production and use of products. The future of designing is in products that will benefit people and the planet.  More...

Hydrogen

Hydrogen

The hydrogen fuel cell was invented by Sir William Robert Grove of Swansea in 1839.

Food

The impact of food on climate change comes from the energy in processing, transporting and preparing it and the greenhouses gases given off by animals. The choices made by food technologists make a big difference to this impact. More...

The average carbon footprint per person in the UK

The average carbon footprint per person in the UK is 10 tonnes, with some regional variations which are linked to average income, access to particular fuels, public transport and standard of housing.

1)Including land use change emissions but not removals

For everyone to have an equal share of emissions and the carbon cycle to process these we will need to reduce our emissions to 2 tonnes per person.  Currently most of the world’s population have emissions of less than 1 tonne.
